As a mother of two teenage daughters, I have lots of experience with creative problem solving. Who would have thought that I would use my mediation and collaborative skills as much at home as I do in the office? Although I freely admit that I only took the family law course in law school so that I could answer the question on the bar exam, family law immediately became the focus of my practice when I first opened the McCollom Law Firm in 1994. After a brief stint at a large firm in the early 2000s, I realized that I enjoy working with people far more than insurance companies, and so I re-dedicated myself to helping families navigate the legal process.

My most fulfilling work is as a mediator and a collaborative attorney, both of which allow me to help families resolve their disputes with compassion and respect and – most importantly – without having their family torn apart in a courtroom. I provide a personal and supportive approach, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with each and every client. I have been married for twenty-five years (to the same man) and we have two amazing daughters. When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling (especially to Aruba), wine, cooking, golf, and reading. I also often color mandalas for relaxation, since I’m terrible at meditation (because I fall asleep). I graduated from Ankeny High School in 1986, from Creighton University in 1990, and from Creighton Law School in 1993. (I was admitted to the Iowa bar in 1993 but had a difficult time finding a job, so I waited tables and worked in a mortuary until I decided to open my own firm in January 1994.) I am active in various professional organizations and I serve on the Iowa Board of Law Examiners.
